Stories of 8 Black People in the Bible November 19, 2008 While the Bible mainly focuses on distinctions between believers and non-believers, it can sometimes make a story more relevant if you can see yourself, or something you can relate to, in it. These are the stories of 8 people who are believed to be of direct African descent. The Ethiopian
Eunich
The story of the Ethiopian Eunich is found in Acts 8:26-39. Verses 26-29
tell us, "And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward
the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he
arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace
queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem
for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then
the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot."
We see from verse 27 that this man was an important government official
in the court of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. We also see that the man was one who
loved reading God’s word. We don’t know why he had a copy of Isaiah, but we know
that God brought him to this passage to show him the way of eternal life. Notice how God
brought these two men together. From a social class viewpoint Philip was from the lower
class whereas the Ethiopian was an important government official. Racially, Philip was
Greek whereas the Eunich was African. But neither man saw these distinctions in each
other. All they saw was another person seeking the things of God. And they joined
together, rich and poor, white and black, to share the good news of God’s message.
God used Philip to lead the Eunich into an encounter with Christ. I wonder how many
Ethiopians heard the gospel message because of this one man’s testimony?
Simon of Cyrene
Mark 15:21 tells us the first part of the story of Simon, "And they
compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of
Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross." We know very little about Simon. We see from
this verse that he had come from the country to Jerusalem on this occasion, perhaps on
business. He must have been a strong man. I don’t think the soldiers would have
picked a weakling. God had appointed him to be there, not to help Jesus with the cross,
but to encounter the one who was to be crucified for his sins. Except for Mark’s
obscure reference to Rufus and Alexander we would have no more information about Simon.
Rufus in Rome
It is in Romans 16:13 that we have Paul’s reference to Rufus,
"Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine." According to the
patristic writing of the second century the gospel of Mark was written for the Roman
Christians. If this is true, it would make sense that Mark would identify Simon of Cyrene
as the father of Rufus and Alexander, two men that the Roman Christians would know. None
of the other gospel writers include the names of the sons. So perhaps the Rufus that Paul
greets is the same Rufus that Mark writes about. It is a good possibility. So I’m
going to include Rufus in our list of black men in the Bible. This reference tells us
about Rufus and it also tells us more about Simon.
Paul emphasizes that Rufus is chosen in the Lord in Romans 16:13. Rufus
must have been a willing follower of Christ. But this also tells us that Simon not only
accepted Christ as his Savior, but he passed on the gospel message to his sons.
Lucius of Cyrene and Simeon called Niger
The church at Antioch became the hub of missionary movement. It grew to
become an important center in the early church history. It was the headquarters of Paul
and Barnabas. But the way it started is a real lesson in how God uses different men for
different purposes to accomplish his work. It was after the stoning of Stephen that the
early church was scattered. Acts 11:20 tells us, "And some of them were men of Cyprus
and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the
Lord Jesus." This was something different. Notice it says they spoke to the Grecians.
Before this the Christians who were scattered proclaimed Christ only to the Jews living in
the city. But these men from Cypress and Cyrene proclaimed the gospel message to the
non-Jews. Who were these anonymous men? Later on we find the church is built up and Paul
and Barnabas have joined the work. And then it mentions two black men that must have been
part of the group that first preached in Antioch. Simeon called Niger and Lucius of
Cyrene. The word "Niger" means "black." Long before Paul and Barnabas
were in Antioch God had raised up these two black believers to build the church.
Ebedmelech
Jeremiah had been cast into a dungeon to die. In Jeremiah 38:7-12, and
39:16-18 is told the story of how Ebedmelech petitioned the king and took men to rescue
Jeremiah. He was not willing to stay back. He was willing to get involved in this great
injustice. In Jeremiah 39:18 God tells Ebedmelech, "As a reward for trusting me, I
will preserve your life and keep you safe."
Solomon’s
Bride
It is most difficult to determine if this person was from African
descent or not. The reason is that the Song of Solomon is a love poem. Song of Solomon 1:5
says, "I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as
the curtains of Solomon." But naturally this is poetic language as is the next verse
which describes how she is dark. In her favor is the fact that Solomon uses the uniqueness
of her skin color as a point of beauty to him, and the Hebrew word he uses here is shachar
which does mean black. So if one of Solomon’s brides were black, you would have to
say that she received one of the highest honors of all time because the Song of Solomon is
considered one the most beautiful love poems of all ages.
Moses’
Ethiopian Wife
In Numbers 12 we have an interesting thing take place. Verse 1 tells us
Moses married an Ethiopian woman. Both Moses’ brother Aaron and sister Miriam spoke
out against this woman. Perhaps this is the first example of racial prejudice. But, Aaron
and Miriam could have been upset with their brother for marrying a non-Jew, and race may
not have been a consideration. We don’t know. The passage of scripture is not clear
why they didn’t like her.
The interesting thing about this story is that God took the side of the
Ethiopian woman. The woman was apparently a believer, so any criticism they had against
her would be unjustified. In God’s kingdom, he doesn’t want to see his children
fighting over things that are so unimportant. Ham's name means burnt faced or Black and a decendant of this is acredited with being the father of many nations. His name was Abram and God changed it to Ge 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for the father of a multitude of nations have I made thee.
Nu 12:10 And the cloud removed from over the Tent; and, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
Ex 4:6 And Jehovah said furthermore unto him, Put now thy hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.
2Ki 5:27 The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.
In the old testament some of the countries and nations that were mentioned were:
Ge 10:6 And the sons of Ham: Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.
History notes that the first civilized inhabitants of the Nile and Tigris-Euphrates valleys, where all life was to have emanated from, were a dark skinned people with short hair and prominent lips.; and they were referred to as Cu!@#!es by some, (Ethiopians, and Hamites by others. According to scripture. Cush was the father of the Ethiopians, Mizraim was the Father of the Egyptians and Ham the father of Cush Mizraim, Phut, and Canaan.. All of whom the Bible declare to black people. The Name Cush means Black. or Burnt Face. The name Canaan from which the Hebrew people originated. Meant red purple. The Hebrews borrowed it from an ancient language know as Hurrian.
And in the new testament:
Ac 2:10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
Prselytes means people who converted to Judaism. According to history many people in Northern Europe were referred to as Kazars. They chose to convert to Judaism in 740 A.D. It is said that they make up 92% of the Europeans that call themselves Jews.
Revelation 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
The truth is that all men decended from the same East African we call ADAM. Science has proven that every man on the planet has the same Y-chromosome and Adam and this focil remains were uncovered in the Nubian Nile river valley of EAST AFRICA bordering the SUDAN which means land of the black man. In general, if we use the definition of "blackness" in the United States (any one of your great grandparents being of African descent makes you black) then the question is not "Who is Black in the Bible"? Rather, "Who isn't. Eden was in Africa (Ethiopia to Iraq). Adam was black, Eve was black, Noah was black,etc.
We can argue all day, but if we use the definition that oppressed us, to liberate us we are on solid footing. This is a very touchy subject because of the adverse racism that has been instilled in the hearts of many. The educational system has spent much time and effort in racial inferiority and racial superiority, but was it based on facts? Were the results the conclusion of research and confirmation? Well let’s see, because the British Broadcasting Channel, known as BBC, has distributed a VHS titled, “Where Archeologist Uncovered Some Astonishing Facts.” But before we venture down that road, let me first establish that this article is not an attempt at racial superiority. In fact, for the 400 years that African Americans have been kidnapped from their land, taken into slavery and taught the European, Roman, Gentile version of Christianity, we have accepted without question that Jesus Christ was a Caucasian. His race didn’t matter to us. We loved him for whom he is. We proudly decorated our houses and our churches with the pictures made available to us. We wore the crucifix around our necks proudly even though the sculpture would go out their way to imply that he had straight to wavy, shoulder length hair like Europeans. We put up no fight or resistance because this was the Son of God, and we didn’t know any better because we didn’t control the media. We didn’t control the publications or the Bibles with pictures that depicted him as a European, and we were deprived of the education that would give us access to doing our own research. How were we to know that when you look at a group of African Americans called Negroes, and you saw all different types of features, that we were looking at different tribes clustered together sold and distributed throughout the land. We were given English translations of the Bible and watched it change year after year to new versions. So if the BBC with the Discovery Channel has uncovered this new evidence, needless to say, we think everyone should know. And the way Blacks willfully accepted Jesus Christ when he was White, our White Christian brothers and sisters should equally accept Jesus Christ now that Whites have discovered that in fact, he was a Negro. The video is available through the Discovery Channel E7008, and it’s entitled, “Jesus: The Complete Story.” It runs for 2 hours and 36 minutes.
Many radical racist Negro groups have yelled that Jesus is Black and the KKK are advocates that Jesus was White. Research to date has yielded that the bodies of Mary of Magdalene, Martha, and Lazarus tombs have been discovered with their names, and a study has shown through DNA, the bone examination, that the people of the village of Magdella, where they lived were in fact Negroes. It doesn’t stop there, Acts Chapter 13:1 reads, “Now there was in the church that was in Antioch certain prophets and teachers: as Barnabas and Simon that was called Niger…” The Greek word being used in this quote means Black-skinned. ‘Niger’ is from ancient Roman, which became Latin ‘Nagra’ used to this present day for Negroes as well as Moranos (Moors), meaning a Black person. So we find that Jesus’ prophets, teachers, his own disciples, relatives, his associates like Mary of Magdalene, were Negroes. This led archeologists to begin to excavate in Judea, the city of Bethlehem mentioned in Matthew chapter 2 as the place where Jesus was born. And verse 2 states saying, “Where is he that is born king of the Jews.” The word Jew did not come into existence until 1514 A.D. It is a transliteration for Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, twin brother to Esau, sons of Issac, son of Abraham, who was Asyerian from Asshur Genesis Chapter 10:6-14. Within that line of descendants, you find Asshur in verse 11; these were descendants from the sons of Ham, which means burnt black and has been verified to be Sudan today, a Negro Arab country. And Cush, which the Bible confirms is Ethiopia, is a Negro country today. And these were all one bloodline, one family coming from Adam and Eve through Seth through Enos and on down. It is clear that this was one group of people and they are still in existence today, and trace their family line back through the scriptures. Then they mention Mizraim, which we know is ancient Egypt. These ancient Nubians were also Negroids. Next, you have Phut, which is ancient carthage, became known as Libya and was ruled by a Negro pharaoh call Sheshek. These are facts that you can research. Evidence has been uncovered to prove these things beyond a shadow of doubt. And if we step out of the Bible into archeology, the oldest human bones discovered is Kenyapathicus, and that’s in the area that we just talked about - Sudan, Kenya, etc. As you trace the seed down to Noah, something strange happens in the Bible. Genesis 5:32 clearly tells you that Noah was five hundred years old and Noah begat (which means gave birth to) of course through his wife three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Man is only five hundred years old once in a lifetime. That is only for one year and let me set the record straight right here. I read Hebrew, so I am not depending on an English translation for my findings. In Genesis 7:6, it says Noah was 600 years old when the flood of waters is upon the earth to confirm that they are talking about one year at a time. Why am I making this point? Because the confusers would have you to believe that Shem, Ham and Japheth born of the same father, Noah and mother Namah, gave birth to three different races of children. And that’s not true; they were triplets born in Noah’ s 500th year of life. And God calls Noah perfect in his generation. Genesis 6:9 reads, “These are the generations of Noah” The word for generation in Hebrew is hdlwt towldah to-led-aw’ or hdlt toldah to-led-aw’ and means genealogy or birth from the Hebrew root Yelad. This verse says that Noah’s genes had not been mixed, that it came straight down, and God says that he was perfect in his generations. So that was not a racial mixture at that point. It was still one pure holy seed and God noted it trying to protect the seed of the woman from the serpent as mentioned in Genesis 3:15- protecting her bloodline from the venomous blood from the seed of the serpent. The Hebrew word for ‘seed’ is Zira, and literally means seed as an offspring. So the Devil has an offspring and his seed will try to bite the heel of Eve’s seed. And God is protecting that Holy seed for a very special purpose. So as we go down from Noah through his sons, we find that Ham’s son Canaan received a curse in Gen. 9:25. Which we later find in Leviticus, chapters 13 and 14, was leprosy. But the other sons came under Shem. So now you have Shem, Ham and Japheth (triplets), three Negroes. That takes us to Genesis chapter 10 as mentioned earlier, where we find that the son Japheth had sons, and their sons mixed in and according to verse 5, to produce the Gentiles or Goyim. These are called the people of Javan, Japheth’s son. And when you look them up, you get Nwy Yavan yaw-vawn’ Javan =” Ionia” or “Greece”. So the Greeks according to the Bible are the original Gentiles or nation other than the holy seed or chosen people. This is your first mixture in of a foreign race into the Negro race, and they became known as Gentiles, which also means Heathens.
The real Jews Posted By KNOWTHETRUTH on April 30, 2010 Now,to add to my comment,if you read deuteronomy 28:25 you will find that it seems that God was talking about the black people in america today.First of all, he said that if the israelites didn`t obey his commands he will put them in Egypt again.Egypt means house of bondage.Or land of bondage.He said that they will be sent to other lands in ships,chained and shackled.He also mentions iron around thy necks.The only people who fit that description throughout history is the African people who were taken into captivity from Africa and brought to Europe,Spain,and the Americas,meaning Puerto Rico,South America,Cuba,Brazil,Haiti,West Indi`s,here etc.When the slave ships made port in these countries,our ancestors were seperated from one another.Meaning,if my brother and I were on a slave ship,I came over here and my brother might have been sent to Jamaica,Puerto Rico,or some other country.That means that anytime you see a black person from one of the other countries where Africans were taken during the slave trade,there`s a good chance they could be a relative of yours.This also happened here within the U.S..They would seperate mother from child and so forth.You have to research history in order to know who you`re dealing with.I do not suggest you get your research from Europeans because their were very racist people who wrote most of the books about religion and ancient history.For some reason they thought that no one would unravel their lies.In the past African americans were denied access to certain books and certain classes in college so we would be able to learn about our history.And it all boils down to the fact that they are putting themselves in place of where we were in history.When you finish doing your research on our history you will find that everything you were taught is a total lie.You will see that before the greeks,Europeans had no history of great civilizations so they tried to replace us with them.Even 80% of the jews in Isreal are not real Jews.They are Khazars.A nomadic people.The Jews in Israel refer to themselves as Ashkenazi Jews.But if you read genesis 10:2,you`ll see that Japheth,son of Noah,had a son named Gomer.And Gomer had a son named Ashkenaz.Ashkenaz was not of the Israelite stock.It also makes a refrence in revelations about false jews.The real jews are supposed to not have their land anymore.They were scattered among their enemies.It is reported that 1 million Israelites went into Africa when the Assyrians concoured Israel.Right now today there are certain tribes in Africa who still practice the old jewish ways of the bible.And have been practicing it for thousands of years.Well surprise people,some of them were captured and brought into the americas on slave ships.It makes a lot of sense to me because if some of the African countries were selling slaves as taught here in the U.S.,then they would sell the strangers of the land first.The so-called jews today only had to deal with the germans for a short period of time.Well in the bible it says that the true Israelites would be in captivity for 400 years and would never see their land again.The Jews today have never lost a war,they`re in the holy land,and the`ve never been slaves for 400 years.You do the math.....lol Blacks of the Bible Posted By DUDLEY on May 21, 2010 This is informing information we for so long wanted to know why we were in such a lost feeling genreration for so many years where the bible is concern as it pertain to people of color Hail Brethrens & Sistrens! I respect the thoughts on this page, it shows that there are men that understand, that has eyes to see and perceive.
Keep laboring for the fruits which shall be reaped.
I believed from the beginning, from the moment Adam was taken from the dust of the earth that his color could not have been anything but the color of the earth.
Lamentations 5: is the bemoaning of black people and the things we do suffer.
I perceive that there is a great deception at work in the world but the word of God stays true. They tell us 13 is an unlucky number, ( not so in the bible ). Chock full and loaded they are with a message and solid information from the Most High! Revelation 13: 1-10 describes the beast of the last days (homosexuals) and then it describes the religious beast for the rest of the chapter!
There are many things hidden in this wonderful book: thing is do you have eyes to see and ears to hear?
Now, I suspect that because of your understanding - you will realize that the Song of Songs is not talking about the love of woman and man but of something else. Just that it is DEEEEP! Superficially it portrays the love for a woman and an exchange of emotions and affections betwixt them, however spiritually - Go check again!

Race Posted By FOLLOWER on August 1, 2010 Jesus was not taught in the Bible as being white, he is taught as being a Jew, or a Hebrew, and that His lineage goes back to Adam, the first man, and most importantly, to Kind David, a Hebrew. So, Jesus was not white or black, hew was a Jew threfore of the Semitic race of man.
Since all people were destroyed except Noah and his three sons and their wife, these are the progenitors of all the races of man...of course, carrying the genes of Adam and Eve.
It is believed that from the dispersion of all people from the time of the Tower of Babel, the races migrated to their respective places of dwelling and their decendants were then from wherever they were born geographically.
The Bible tells us that Abram, who became Abraham, the father of many nations, was not of any particular nationality, but dwelt in the land of Ur (modern Iraq area). God chose Abram to be the father of a called out people, Hebrew. So, there are only two kinds of people in the world, scripturally speaking, but Jew and Gentile. If we are not Jewish we are Gentiles. But, as Christians we can say, there are only two kinds of people in the world, believers or unbelievrs. We have to get away from the hang up of race as pertains to Jesus Christ and who is related to Him by geneology. He said, "Who is My mother, my brother or my sister"? and He looked around the crowd of people and said, "46While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
Matthew 12:47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?49And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother".
And, "God is spirit and they who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth."
Satan has been busy deceiving many people who have done all they can to add to and tak away from God's Word, The Holy Bible; but God Himself has preserved the writings that we have today to prove His love for all people of all races. One of the first songs I learned in Sunday School was, "Red or Yellow, Blac or White, they are precious in His sight; Jesus love the little children of the world".
If people continue to strive over racial pride they will not enter in to God's Kingdom because they will be too proud.

While I knew that the correct answer to all the questions in Sunday school was Jesus, church seemed like something you just were supposed to do and I assumed that I would just get serious about Jesus and church when I got older, maybe in my thirties. |
