Top 5 Prayer Requests for President-Elect Barack Obama
November 5, 2008
1) His Family
There are so many people who love love love the Obamas and how much they love each other. But, regardless of how much we love them, they still have to love each other after they leave the White House. I don't want to see Malia and Sasha on some E! True Hollywood Story about First Daughters with Daddy issues.
I'm praying for Barack and Michelle - that they can still find time for each other over the next four years, and still maintain their relationship as husband and wife, and as parents to Malia and Sasha.
I'm praying for Barack's relationship with the girls - that he's able to continue to set a good example for them and spend one-on-one time with them.
I'm praying for Michelle - that she's not overwhelmed by being First Lady with perhaps even more intense critiques of her life, dress, parenting, and career.
I'm praying for the girls - that they can maintain some semblance of normalcy and grow up to be well-adjusted and mature young ladies.
2) His EgoPresident-elect Obama is loved for, among other things, his love for and commitment to his family. But, like we saw with John Edwards and his scandal during the primaries, it's easy for a person's ego to inflate in a major way through politics and to develop a super-human, "I can get away with anything" mentality.
I'm really praying hard that Barack doesn't go down like Clinton with some stupid sex scandal.

As it says in the book on how good companies became great ones, "Good to Great", great companies are made by having the right people in the right positions, so I'm praying that God will guide him to get the right people in his Cabinet and in other advisory positions around him.
But even more than that, I'm praying that God will help him to sift through all of their advice and make the decisions, especially the hard ones, that are best for the country.
4) For Change and The Expectations of the peopleHis entire campaign was about hope and change, and now, I'm sure there are a whole bunch of folks around the world expecting him to turn water into wine and poverty into riches.
So, I'm praying that other countries don't come out of the woodwork with requests for the U.S. to help them with all of their problems.
I'm praying for U.S. citizens - that they continue to work with grassroots organizations to bring about the change that they want to see in the world, and not just look to the government to fix everything.
I'm also praying that U.S. citizens continue to hope that the country will get better and that the new government will bring about positive change in the world, but don't look to Barack as though he's the 2nd coming of Jesus, because he isn't.
5) Whatever Else They Need That We Don't Know AboutWhether it be guidance, protection, attention, wisdom, love, comfort, or something else.
Whatever it is that each of the Obamas needs to be successful as members of the First Family and in their own personal and private lives over the next four years, I pray that God would provide those things to them.
